Angels in Our Life

“It was a cool spring afternoon when two missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were praying at the top of a street in Albany, NY. They were asking for guidance and inspiration to know where they should go next to share their message of hope and love. Just minutes later they both received a strong impression that they should knock on the door of a house they were passing. Excitedly they approached the door and knocked, and waited, and knocked and waited, repeating this many times. Confused, for the impression they received from the spirit was strong, they reluctantly started to walk away. They didn’t get far before they heard someone call out ‘Hey girls, were you looking for me?’ They turned to see a young man sticking his head out from a second floor window of the house.

Patsy and I met at a community college near Lake Placid NY where I grew up. She was born and raised in Albany NY but stayed with relatives as she attended college. We were married and had two children, a boy and a girl, while we were living in Lake Placid. Then in 1983 we moved the family to Albany. In 1995 we were able to purchase our first home. It was that house, our home, that the Holy Ghost directed the sister missionaries to that day. It was our teenage son, in a time of despair and severe depression, while considering if life was worth living, who heard a persistent knocking on the front door downstairs, and finally decided to look out the upstairs window.

In reflection we have been able to see that God has always been in our lives, protecting us, teaching us, guiding us towards that time of conversion to His truth. It was when we gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the message those two faithful sister missionaries brought to our door that we found true joy. The joy that persists even in times of tragedy as well as in times of happiness.

As Patsy prepared dinner that evening our son Ryan said to her, with tears in his eyes, two angels saved me today. They gave me this book.

We know that the Book of Mormon contains the word of God, preserved for this time of great restoration and gathering. We know that it is another testimony of Jesus Christ to help us to always remember Him, to follow Him and obey His commandments. Without reservation we desire to follow His living prophet, Russell M Nelson, the apostles and other leaders, as they reveal to us our part in this great work. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only church on earth with Jesus Christ at the head; it is His church.

We want to express our love and deepest thanks to the many that have been witnesses of Christ, examples of His love, and angels in our life.”
